Hair units explained
A man weave, also called a hair unit or hair system, is a non-surgical hair replacement that bonds directly to the scalp using medical-grade adhesive. Each unit is custom-built to match your natural colour, curl pattern, texture, and density, then cut and blended into your existing hair by a trained specialist. The result looks like your own hair. Most people can't tell.
Man weaves work for male pattern baldness, alopecia, thinning crowns, receding hairlines, or any stage of hair loss, all hair types included. Unlike a hair transplant, there's no surgery, no scarring, no downtime, and no waiting months for results. You walk out the same day with a full head of hair.
Man weaves for Black men are especially popular. Our specialists are trained in all afro-textured styles, from waves and curls to locs, fades, and tapers.
Man weave cost varies based on unit type, hair texture, and your specialist's pricing. Most first-time installations range from $250 to $750, which includes the hair unit, consultation, fitting, and blended cut. Maintenance visits, typically every 4โ8 weeks, typically run $150โ$350.

Most men who come to Aceman have already done weeks of research. They know what a hair system is. They've watched the videos. They're past the "is this a real thing" stage.
What they're not sure about is who to trust, what the process actually looks like, and whether something could go wrong.
Here's exactly how it works, from your first visit to walking out with hair. Most men go from first contact to service day in two to three weeks.
Start by browsing the Aceman directory. Every specialist listed on the platform has been vetted before they appear. That means reviewed for experience, skill, and professionalism, not just added because they filled out a form.
You can filter by city, look through profiles, and see real before-and-after photos from actual clients. Take your time. There's no pressure to commit to anything at this stage.
Browse vetted specialistsWhen you find a specialist you want to learn more about, you book an assessment call with the Aceman team.
It's a short conversation, usually 10 to 15 minutes. We want to understand your level of hair loss, your budget, and what you're hoping to achieve. That way, when you meet your specialist, the conversation picks up where this one left off. No repeating yourself.
If it's not the right fit, we'll tell you honestly.
Once you've decided you want to move forward, you pay a service deposit to reserve your spot.
The deposit is typically $200–$300 depending on the total service cost. It confirms you're serious and protects the specialist's time. It also gets the process moving. Your specialist won't order your hair unit until the deposit is in.
Over 13,000 men have been through this process. Most say the deposit was the moment it stopped feeling like a decision and started feeling like a plan.
On refunds: The deposit is refundable up until the point you confirm your hair unit selection. Once the unit is ordered (made to your specs) it becomes non-refundable.
After the deposit, you're introduced to your specialist and booked in for an in-person consultation.
Your specialist will look at your hair, your scalp, your level of loss, and what you're going for. You'll discuss style, texture, density, colour, and base type. This is also your chance to ask questions and see their previous work up close.
Nothing is ordered until you've agreed to exactly what you want.
Once you've confirmed your selection at the consultation, your specialist orders your hair unit. It's made to match your existing hair: the texture, the colour, the density.
Lead times vary, but your specialist will give you a clear timeframe before you leave the consultation. Most units arrive within a few weeks. Your specialist will contact you as soon as it's in.
Once the unit arrives, your service date is set. That's the last step before you come in.
You come in for your installation appointment. Your specialist preps your scalp, fits and bonds the unit, then cuts and styles it to match your look.
First installations typically take 2–4 hours. You pay the remaining balance directly to the specialist on the day.
You walk out with hair.
A hair system isn't a one-time thing. The bond holds for 4–8 weeks before needing a maintenance visit. The unit itself lasts 3–6 months depending on how well it's looked after.
Your specialist will walk you through aftercare before you leave. Most men build maintenance into their regular routine the same way they'd book a haircut.
Hair units on the platform range from $250–$750 depending on the hair quality, base type, and length. Your specialist will break down your total cost at the consultation, no surprises.
Example breakdown, based on a $750 service
| Item | Amount | When You Pay |
|---|---|---|
| Service deposit | $300 | After assessment call, to Aceman |
| Remaining balance | $450 | Day of service, to specialist |
| Total | $750 | Covers full service + hair unit |
| Maintenance visits | $100–$250 each | Every 4–8 weeks |

A platform connecting men experiencing hair loss with hair system specialists across the US.
A lot of men spend months researching hair systems without doing anything about it. Looking things up privately, finding someone on Instagram, not being able to tell if they're actually good, and going quiet again.
Aceman Weave Units is a platform connecting men experiencing hair loss with hair system specialists across the US. You can browse specialist profiles, see their work, and read client reviews before you pay anything or speak to anyone.
The platform launched in 2017. The founder, Andre, came from a marketing background and spotted a straightforward gap — hair systems for men were gaining real visibility, particularly in the African American community, but there was no reliable central place to find a qualified specialist. The cities we cover, the specialists we work with, and the way the platform is designed all reflect that focus. He started building. Then men started emailing in, describing what hair loss was actually doing to their lives day to day. That's what kept it going.
The gap was obvious. A market full of specialists, no reliable way to find one. The emails from men describing what it was actually costing them — that's what made it worth building properly.
There are two sides to Aceman. For men looking for a solution. For specialists looking for serious clients.
The platform is growing. If you're a hair system specialist looking for a steady flow of serious, pre-qualified clients — you can apply to be listed.
